The cost

Oh goddess of Valium and brandy
passed to me like an expensive cigar
At a party in a house on a lake
between the hours of midnight and dawn

The new goddess
stillborn on that grey morn
The loved one dead on the pillow
next to my head

There in that silent room
behind the stone that could not be moved
I awaited the destruction
that never came

Boyd Clack, September 2016

Boyd will be on our screens next month in The Green Hollow - a 'poem in the voice of Aberfan Then and Now', by poet, novelist and playwright, Owen Sheers. The hour-long film stars Michael Sheen and a host of top Welsh actors. The Green Hollow will show on BBC1 Wales, marking the 50th anniversary of the tragedy in Aberfan on 21 October 1966.
