Care in the community

Bring back mental asylums
That's what I say,
Huge Victorian ones!
Where is there now?

Flats, hostels, shared houses, the streets?
No, lock me in
That's what I want.

Lock me up safe
Not among the deadbeats
And the junkies
Not next door to a church

No! Put me in a room with
Bars on the windows,
Let me be hidden
From the silent hell.

Let me be with others of my kind.
Let every twilight be my dawn.
Rainswept grey stone heaven

I will hide my eyes in you,
In the folds of white linen,
In the cold light of madness.

For my brothers and sisters,
Boyd Clack, March 2017
