Accessorize your home this Christmas

Having a modern and rather small home, I'm always looking for minimalist ways to decorate at Christmas that don't involve having loads of nik naks dotted around our home, gathering dust and taking up what little remaining space we have. That said, I love the ostentatiousness of Christmas, and the glamour and extra sparkle that comes into our homes at this time of year. So how do you bring some winter chic and style in your home, without spending all your spare time tripping over things?

One of the interior home magazines I read recently suggested hanging some (spare) baubles which you have used to decorate your Christmas tree, off of a chandelier or light fitting, which lends itself to this type of decoration. Truth is, chandeliers work best whether they are in a modern or traditional finish as the arms on the light fittings lend themselves to this type of decoration, just be careful as the baubles can hang rather low and, commonly can connect with your head!

Another idea is to take branches of twisted willow and arrange them in a vase, spray them silver (or whatever base colour your using this season) and hang baubles from the branches. This decoration looks stunning on a side table or makes a glamorous, modern alternative to a Christmas tree if you are really short for space.

Have some stunning Christmas tree baubles left and no room on the tree? Another nice idea is to use a shallow dish and place on your coffee table. Then, place a large plain pillar candle in the centre and then scatter baubles around, together with complimentary items such as pine cones, ribbons or bows. Another chic way of displaying excess baubles is to layer them in a clear hurricane lamp, and if you have any fairy lights not being used, scatter these amongst the baubles and place on a side table.
