Laugharne (Talacharn), beside the Tâf estuary, will be forever associated with Dylan Thomas, who lived there from 1948, until his death in New York, in 1953. Thomas wrote some of his most famous work in his writing shed there, near the Boat House, including Do not go gentle into that good night and Under Milk Wood; commonly thought to include many characters from the town.

But this lovely little Carmarthenshire town is more than just Dylan Thomas. No trip to Laugharne is complete unless you visit the wonderful, quirky and thoroughly interesting Tin Shed Experience in Laugharne. The museum, housing a huge collection of 1940s memorabilia, was created in 2011 by a small group of committed, dedicated, enthusiasts, headed by Andrew Isaacs and Seimon Pugh-Jones.

Working actively with the local community, especially local schools, the Tin Shed Experience hopes to broaden people's perceptions, and understanding, of 'normal life' during the War years. They do this to great effect, by displaying items, both the everyday and the unusual, giving the visitor an insight into the hardships of the 1940s, in contrast to the relative ease of modern day life.

Such is the esteem in which this museum is held, that Tin Shed Experience has been used as part of a film project by students from the University of South Wales' ATRiuM: Cardiff School of Creative and Cultural Industries.

Items from the collection have also been used for filming off-site. When we visited in 2013, the team were busy rearranging the exhibits, after they had been out on loan as props for A Poet in New York; the made-for-TV film, produced by Griff Rhys-Jones and starring Tom Hollander, marking the centenary of Dylan Thomas' birth, will be screened on BBC later this year.

The site is also ingeniously used as a music venue, performance space and photographic location.

Gangster style cars, vintage uniforms and kitchenalia are all on display and make for a very interesting visit.
