At a vintage flea market in Abergavenny, I came across a delightful way to have personalised, individual gift tags, using vintage playing cards. Some months ago I won an Ebay auction, comprising a number of sets of vintage playing cards such as Progress, Sum It and Lexicon. I had originally bought the auction lot to use the latter two sets of playing cards for art pieces, but was a bit stumped as to what do to with the Progress set – but they are perfect for this project, as they often depict religious scenes and have a traditional, Christmassy feel about them.
Making the gift cards could not be simpler. Just apply a strong glue to the back of the playing card and apply some good quality (blank) card (I used black, but you can use whichever colour you choose), so you can write on the back of the gift tag. Leave to dry for 10-15 minutes.
Then, when the glue has set, cut around the playing card so that you have a clean edge around the gift tag.
Using a hole-punch, create a hole in the top left hand corner of the gift tag, and then add ribbon or twine of your choice.
As the gift tags are quite stiff, they feel wonderfully luxurious and great quality. And ... who else will have tags like these?
